What can I expect during a Hen Healing Session?
- Sessions last approximately 40-45 Minutes.
- The first 20 minutes will be spent getting to know the flock members. learning how to interact with the flock, and learning how to properly hold a chicken. The last portion of the session is hanging out in the chicken yard with the flock.
- Sessions are scheduled during nice weather, typically in the evenings and weekends during spring, summer, and fall.
- You will have the opportunity to spend time in the chicken yard, coop, & run
- Our flock includes 25 total chilled-out hens currently (& growing)
- Rachel, our Head Hen (a human) will accompany you during your session.
- Sessions include one person per session. If a child is under the age of 18, their parent will be required to accompany them during the session.
How will I feel during/after a Hen Healing Session?
- Calming Presence: Spending time with hens can have a soothing effect on individuals, helping to reduce stress & anxiety.
- Mindfulness: Focusing on the simple & rhythmic activities of the chickens can temporarily take one’s mind off stressors.
- Tactile Stimulation: Petting or holding chickens provides tactile stimulation, releasing oxytocin, often referred to as the “love hormone.” This can lead to feelings of comfort & relaxation.
- Connection with Nature: Chickens are outdoor animals, & being in their presence allows individuals to connect with nature. This connection can have therapeutic effects, promoting a sense of well-being & reducing stress.
- Routine & Predictability: Chickens thrive on routine, this predictability can be comforting for individuals dealing with stress or uncertainty.
- Social Interaction: Chickens are social animals, & interacting with them can facilitate positive social experiences. The act of caring for & being around chickens can encourage social interaction with others, fostering a sense of community.
- Laughter & Joy: Chickens, with their quirky behaviors & comical movements, can bring joy & laughter. Laughter is a natural stress reliever, & the playful antics of chickens can lift one’s spirits.
- Non-judgmental Companionship: Chickens don’t criticize or evaluate; they simply provide a presence that is accepting & unconditional.
